About this position

Reporting to the National Music Centre’s Senior Manager of PR and Marketing, the Communications Assistant will play an important role in the National Music Centre’s Marketing team. The Communications Assistant will manage NMC Street Team activities at summer festivals in Alberta, contribute to social media and PR campaigns, and other duties as needed.  

This is a full-time (35-hours a week), 15-week role at $18 per hour. 

Summer student funding for this position requires that applicants must meet all eligibility requirements for Canada Summer Jobs, including being between the ages of 15–30 at the start of employment.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage NMC Street Team activities by attending summer festivals and events, leading volunteers, and representing NMC professionally.  
  • Assist with social media campaigns and promos, including on-camera content for trend-driven reels.
  • Provide support for, and assist in, media pitching and interview coordination.
  • Handle listings coordination, tourism marketing, and support other Marketing activities as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Must meet all Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements, including being between the ages of 15–30 at the start of employment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Competent social media marketing skills and good judgement.  
  • A passion for music, musical knowledge or musical skill is an asset.

Education & Experience

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary program in September 2026 in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a reliable vehicle, and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds to transport marketing materials to summer festivals.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
  • Photography skills are an asset.
