About Durgesh Gangani

Durgesh Gangani is an accomplished Kathak artist, hailing from the illustrious Jaipur Gharana. He is the son of Dr. Pt. Jagdish Gangani, a senior guru of the Jaipur Gharana, and the grandson of the legendary Kathak maestro, Pt. Sundarlal Gangani. With dance and music deeply embedded in his lineage, Durgesh began his training at the tender age of four under the rigorous and nurturing guidance of his father and grandfather.

Over the years, he has mastered the intricate nuances of nritta and nritya, reflecting the finest technical aspects of the Jaipur Gharana. His performances—both in India and internationally—have earned him acclaim across prestigious music and dance festivals, sharing stages with world-renowned artists.

Durgesh completed his Master’s degree in Kathak from the Faculty of Performing Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2017, graduating summa cum laude as a Gold Medalist. He served as an Assistant Professor at the university until 2021, furthering academic excellence in Indian classical dance.

In 2019, he was honored with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, becoming the youngest Indian classical dancer to receive this national recognition.

Among his many trailblazing milestones, Durgesh became the first Indian artist to ring the bell at Nasdaq and be featured on Times Square, Manhattan. He also made history as the first Indian to perform at Performance Spaces 21st Century in Chatham, NYC.

Beyond the stage, Durgesh is the founder of Unwork Media, a creative agency that blends storytelling with strategy. Committed to giving back, he continues to honor his family’s legacy by teaching Kathak to underprivileged girls in Vadodara, nurturing the next generation of dancers.
