November 30 — Make a Better Sounding Recording at Home

Do you record your own music? Are you pitching songs you’ve written, mapping out arrangements before a studio recording session, or working towards a fully realized production for commercial release? How can you make the most of your home studio setup? By listening like a recording engineer and understanding some basic technical concepts, you can learn to make recordings that sound the way you want and make a stronger impression on your audience when you press the “Play” button.

This workshop for self-recording musicians will cover topics including:

  • Digital recording basics — sample rate, bit depth, latency
  • Microphone basics — dynamic and condenser mics, directionality, stereo vs mono
  • Recording techniques for voice, guitar, and piano
  • Mixing vs mastering
  • Monitoring in headphones and speakers
  • Digital processing basics — equalization, compression, delay, reverb, loudness
